Largest ever Reese’s peanut butter cups sold out in just hours
Reese’s peanut butter cups are a Halloween candy staple. This Thanksgiving, however, families and friends may find a pie-sized version at their dinner tables.
Hershey’s is releasing a 9-inch Thanksgiving pie version of its famous Reese’s peanut butter cups, just in time for the annual November holiday.
The peanut butter cup pie weighs in at 3.4 pounds, making it the largest peanut butter cup ever produced.
“When you bring together friends and family for Thanksgiving dinner, no table spread is complete without dessert,” said Bo Jones, senior associate brand manager at Reese’s. “At Reese’s, we wanted to create a dessert that everyone wants a piece of. You can thank us later.”
Only 3,000 of the Reese’s peanut butter cup pies will be made available for purchase, with each going for $44.99 plus tax on Hershey’s website.
“Introducing Reese’s Thanksgiving Pie — a spin on a tried-and-true holiday treat that contains the only two ingredients a dessert really needs … chocolate and peanut butter. Oh, and did we mention that this peanut butter cup is the size of a real pie,” reads the product description on Hershey’s website.
The peanut butter cup pies sold out within hours, according to a post on Reese’s Facebook page, so anyone who was hoping to get their hands on the peanut butter and chocolate treat will have to wait.
The new peanut butter cup dimensions follow a trend for Reese’s, which earlier this year released a peanut butter cup that contained no chocolate — a first in the company’s 90-year history.
The company also released separate versions of its peanut butter cups called Peanut Butter Lovers Cup(s) in 2019 and 2020, however those still contained a slight amount of chocolate.
