From Leading Edge to Bleeding Edge

CSAT, the world’s largest computer repair depot, is reimagining efficiency through a commitment to developing future-shaping IP

“We are using AI to make humans monumentally efficient.” These are the words of Jason Lu, Chief Technology Officer for CSAT Solutions, a repair depot that does warranty and repair work for three of the five largest computer manufacturers on Earth. “Automation transformed us from one of the most efficient and capable organizations in the world to even become more – to having the best turnaround times and the best quality in the world.”
And they did so with mind-melting speed. More on that in a moment.

Jason Lu
Without naming names, CSAT’s contributions to the computer repair and fulfillment industry include increasing the productivity of an operation that was already one of the most efficient in the world. “Rather than doing what everybody else is doing we’re taking what others are doing and moving it from the cutting edge to the bleeding edge,” Lu noted. “We are pushing harder, moving faster –leveraging innovation and cutting-edge technology to redefine device repair, drive efficiency, and deliver peak performance.”
A multiple ORBIE winner, Lu has an extensive background in leading, coaching, and mentoring technology teams to drive innovation while delivering highly complex technology products and portfolios for billion-dollar enterprises. “What really makes a difference in my role is the nature and speed at which we do it. CSAT has always been one of the major warranty and repair depots, and we’re the largest computer and device repair company in the world. That’s a pretty big claim in a world where we’re all using devices.”
Founded in 1992 as a motherboard repair company, over time CSAT grew into a global leader in electronics repair and supply chain management, specializing in delivering top-tier solutions with incomparable speed, dependable results, and seamless logistics support.
CSAT leverages their expertise in automation and robotics, AI and predictive machine learning, data-driven engineering solutions, and real-time operations metrics and command centers to support its customers’ success. In addition, the company is dedicated to building a sustainable future through innovative practices, community engagement, ethical governance, and a commitment to reducing electronic waste.
When Lu joined CSAT in 2021, the entire globe was dealing with massive inflation, and the company’s impetus to make the company more efficient with its existing resources, while reducing costs became a mandate. They met that commitment by leveraging a unique blend of robotics, automation, machine learning, and true AI software development. The team also made CSAT one of the safest, most secure repair environments on the planet in less than three years.

“In a world where the latest buzzword is AI, a lot of companies are experimenting with just implementing Copilot or making a policy around the use of ChatGPT. We’re actually using AI to automate efficiency.” Using innovation to drive efficiency, CSAT developed its own in-house IP AI and ML for diagnostics and predictive repair.
Lu and his team took a highly efficient digital organization and transformed it into a heavily technology-enabled, extraordinarily efficient, and efficacious operation. “We have a tremendous application development practice where we build custom software that sometimes rivals or exceeds the capabilities that are commercially available from larger shops. We do it in-house and have more than doubled our efficiency across all the customers that we serve – and they’re able to share the cost savings with us.”
When asked how other companies can meet the challenges of this dynamic environment, Lu offered a quote from Sun Tzu. “‘Be prepared for your enemy’s arrival’ so you set your position in a way you can respond and not have project delays. We’ve deployed thousands of projects in a year in orders of magnitude of success higher than other companies.”
The company depends on some of the best, most talented repair technicians and workforce in the world. “We’re very proud of the team that we built, but we supplement that and make that work life better. So in a world where we can say that everybody’s afraid that AI is replacing jobs, this is really good key work,” he stressed. “We’re the repair depot that has most effectively deployed AI to supplement the workforce.”
It’s no surprise that the company has won several Great Places to Work awards as well as diverse workplace awards from Newsweek. “I have one of the best information security teams. It’s small but extraordinary, talented, innovative, agile, and the right level of ownership that empowers smart people to roll in the same direction.”

CSAT’s acquisition of USOC Medical, an Irvine, Calif.,-based biomedical equipment services and repair company, is a wise move into another repair avenue where speed, efficiency, and continuous quality is paramount.
“We took a very storied and well-established brand and said, ‘At its core, most medical devices have a motherboard, a power supply, and often a screen. If we have all the credentials for that, why can’t we do medical devices too?’ We brought a tremendous amount of the same efficiencies that we have with our computer business and we offer the same turnaround times. We also offer scale. We can offer a lot of the same tools that we have in our computer repair business and serve the largest manufacturers in the world.”
CSAT isn’t just swapping out parts that cost sometimes tens of thousands of dollars. In-house repair services are augmented by outsourced repair capabilities with even faster turnaround times that can be met in-house. Many computer manufacturers don’t have the ability to engineer, manufacture, and execute the comprehensive repair work that CSAT can – whose capabilities and turnaround times sometimes exceed those of an OEM.
“We are the most advanced we’ve ever been, yet we’re at the least advanced we’ll ever be. Technology has moved as fast as it ever will be, but at the same time it’s moving at slow as it ever will,” Lu mused. “We’re at a bit of an inflection point, but this is more than an idea. Here we are. We’re putting it in motion.”
