One of the most common ways that people reach their fitness goals is to pick up an accountability buddy. Having someone to share your daily progress can be a great way to move forward. This works great in that you can both grab a pre-workout cup of steaming hot black coffee to charge through your gym session and, later, sit together and yap.

But the other best way to ensure that your workouts are supercharged and that you actually make the finish line every single time is to curate a great playlist!

In fact, several studies from around the world have revealed the profound benefits of music on your daily workouts. These include a reduced sense of effort, a distraction from fatigue, enhanced mood and concentration levels, and increased endurance. A study conducted in England reveals that music improves one’s performance in endurance, resistance, and sprinting exercises.

The Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports published research that clearly shows that listening to music during exercise – particularly cardio classes like cycling, running, and high-intensity interval training – can improve the efficiency of the workout by reducing feelings of exhaustion. The International Review of Sport and Exercise Psychology also heavily supplemented these findings.

We all know that music is great for a workout. So, here are four sets of bands from around the world that you can add to your exercise playlists:

Australian Bands

Going into a strength training or HIIT cardio class without feeling like you’re going to strike thunder would probably not be the best way to go about it. No, you need to get in there ready to take over the world! That is why you need to begin with famous Aussie bands, such as AC/DC and Tame Impala.

While you’re pushing hard in spin class, you can listen to electronic beats, such as those by The Presets, Peking Duk, and Empire of the Sun. And when you get an endorphin high, you can celebrate the feeling with “My Happiness” by Powderfinger.

English Style Power Hour

If you’re leaning more toward the Brit side, you could start up your gym class with “Start Me Up” by The Rolling Stones – a classic – or warm up to “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”.  The electronic tracks by The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy would work best for fast-paced reps.

The Arctic Monkeys, Muse, Biffy Clyro, and Blur would give you all the strength that you need to lift your weights. Kasabian’s alternative rock tracks would feed the rest of the motivation that you need.

Dance Like the Irish at Gym Hour

You can, of course, sway west of England and plow through your gym hour with Irish beats.  Ash, Foutaines D.C., The Cranberries, and Two Door Cinema Club have a whole lot of upbeat tracks that would take your cardio from mediocre to meteoric.

You can also trudge up the StairMaster in high resistance with emotional yet uplifting tracks like “Hall of Fame” by The Script as well as “High Hopes” and “Love Like This” by Kodaline.

Do It Like Superman with American Bands

If you would rather keep it at home, Metallica and Nirvana would be the first choice. But Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, and Rage Against the Machine would surely be the best choice to bring the heat to your strength and resistance training sessions.

The evergreen music of Linkin Park and the soul-moving masterpieces by Imagine Dragons would also make you forget about the exertion that you’re putting into each set of reps and Green Day and Black Keys would make up for any lack of energy that you might be feeling that you’re facing.

To Sum It All Up

Famous rock bands from across the world are lauded for a reason: the art that they have created brings so much joy, motivation, and inspiration to the world that people can’t help but cheer them on. Which is why all of these suggestions were listed here.

But at the end of the day, you choose the playlist that powers your workout. What matters is that you focus on your well-being, nurture your health, improve your fitness, and generally become a great big boss of a human being or even a gym boss if your hobbies evolve into professional activities.

You can curate a list of songs by contemporary hip-hop artists: solo musicians, duos, trios, bands, or even DJs and instrumental artists. As long as the music that you’re listening to is helping you get a fantastic workout in, it’s perfect and it works for everyone.

Achieve heights of greatness for yourself by staying motivated and strong. Work hard and reap the benefits of investing in your body, mind, and spirit. And never let anything bring you down.
