It has long been said that buying in bulk can save you money, but making the larger initial payment can feel challenging before you see the actual savings. Batteries are an essential item in every home, and running out of them can be very inconvenient. The cost of living is high at the moment, and following a period of mass inflation, it is important to seize any opportunity to save extra money and use it wisely elsewhere. This article explains how and why buying bulk batteries can benefit you, both financially and in terms of convenience.

What’s the most common battery I will need?

There are a few main types of batteries that are used in everyday household objects, these include:

  • AAA batteries are used in small electric items like fairy lights, some torches and remote controls
  • AA batteries are often used for the same or similar items to AAA batteries, including remotes, digital cameras, computer mice and house clocks
  • 9V batteries are commonly used in items that are crucial for safety, making it important that they are stocked up so you aren’t in a situation where you don’t have access to them. This includes smoke detectors and many medical devices.
  • C and D batteries are larger and are often used for items that require higher power levels. These include larger toys or game consoles, portable radios, or lanterns.

What does buying in bulk really mean?

Bulk buying refers to buying a large quantity of the same item. Although the initial cost is often higher, buying in bulk generally reduces the price per individual product, which will get you better value for money.

Buying in bulk is a consumer strategy usually deployed by companies to save more money, as they know they will use all of the items. However, in recent years, individuals have become increasingly interested in buying non-perishable produce in bulk. One study recorded that around 75% of customers now buy at least some items in bulk. Arguably, this is in the wake of COVID panic buying, where items like toilet paper or milk were unavailable for long periods of time, potentially leading more people to stock up just in case. This has always been a more popular strategy with larger families, but it is now more universal.

How will bulk buying batteries save me money?

Batteries are non-perishable, so you can continue to use them and there is no risk of them going out of date. The initial cost will end up paying off, as you would use that amount of batteries anyway. As the price per unit is lower when you buy in bulk, you will inevitably be making savings.

Studies on savings for bulk buying have shown that consumers typically save anywhere between 20% to 83% due to the reduced unit price for larger quantities.

How will it be more convenient?

Another clear benefit of bulk buying is that you can keep the products for a long time. You can reach for the same packet for years and will not run out anywhere near as frequently. If your lamp or TV remote dies, you won’t need to pop to the shops to get more, as you will have a collection of batteries ready at hand.

Bulk buy batteries now!

So, why go for it and grab some batteries in bulk? Consider which items you use frequently and what batteries they use, then search for ‘bulk batteries’ and compare the competitively priced market. There are clear benefits, so why not take advantage of any savings you can get?
