Trim, Merge & Convert Videos Online with Clideo

Reading Time: 4 minutes
Want to trim, merge and convert videos online with Clideo? You can. And you don’t need a decent laptop to do it, which is sort of the whole point.
I’ll be upfront about what it does well and what it doesn’t, because that seems more useful than a list of features you could read off the homepage.
So what is it
It’s a video editor that lives in your browser. Mac, Windows, Linux, Android, iPhone — doesn’t matter. You open the page, drag your files in, and there’s a proper timeline waiting for you.
Nobody is pretending this replaces Premiere. It won’t. What it does is handle the jobs that make up about ninety per cent of normal video work: cutting something down, sticking two clips together, fixing a format your phone refuses to open.
Trimming
Everyone’s first edit is a trim. Your clip is too long, the first eight seconds are you fumbling with the camera, and you just want that gone.
Upload, drag the handles to where you want the video to start and stop, export. Done. You can also split a clip into pieces, speed it up, slow it down, or run it backwards if that’s the look you’re after.
One thing I’d suggest: trim first, before you add text or music. Otherwise you’ll trim something out and spend the next ten minutes dragging your captions back into place. Learned that one the hard way.
Merging
This is where the timeline actually matters. Throw in your videos, your photos, your audio, then drag them into whatever order makes sense. They play as one piece.
Mixed formats are fine. An MP4 next to a MOV next to a JPG, no complaints. There are aspect ratio presets as well, so you can set the whole project to vertical for TikTok or square for Instagram without cropping each clip by hand.
Layering clips on top of each other gives you picture-in-picture or a split screen. Useful if you do reactions, tutorials, anything where you need your face in the corner.
Converting
Format problems are such a small thing that ruins such a big chunk of your afternoon. Someone emails you an AVI. Nothing opens it. You start googling.
Clideo takes the usual suspects: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WEBM, WMV on the video side, MP3 and AAC for audio, PNG and JPG for images. There are also dedicated pages for specific formats, so if all you need is an MP4 editor you can skip straight there.
HD and 4K both work. Your original quality stays intact on export unless you deliberately change it.
Getting started
Three steps, honestly.
Upload whatever you’ve got — off your device, out of Google Drive, out of Dropbox. Starting from nothing works too.
Then build it. Files onto the timeline, shuffle the order, crop things, tweak brightness, adjust speed and volume, drop in text and pick your font and colour.
Then hit Export in the top right corner, choose your settings, and save it down to your device or back to the cloud.
The free version, and where it stops
Plenty of people use the free tier and never think about paying. That’s genuinely fine.
But there are limits, and it’s better you know them now than halfway through a project. Free means smaller uploads, a watermark on your export, and you have to finish in one go because projects aren’t saved. Premium lifts all of that, adds more of the AI tools, and lets you put your own PNG watermark on instead.
If watermarks bother you, that’s your answer. If they don’t, stay free.
Who this is actually for
Social media people. Students. Someone running a small business who needs a product clip by Friday. Teachers. Anyone editing on a phone or a computer that isn’t theirs.
If you’re colour grading a short film, this isn’t your tool and I wouldn’t pretend otherwise. For everything else it’s a reasonable place to start.
Questions people ask
Can I put music on my videos? Yes. Your own audio files, the built-in library, sound effects, your own recorded voice, or an AI voiceover.
Can I save a project and finish it tomorrow? Only on premium. Free users need to get it done in one session.
What can I add on top of the video? Text, as much as you want, with control over font, size, weight, colour and background. Shapes, GIFs, stickers, emojis and stock images too.
Which files can I upload? Most of the common ones. MP4, MOV, AVI, PNG, JPG, MP3, AAC and a long list beyond that.
What resolution does it handle? Up to 4K. Quality is preserved unless you change the export settings yourself.
Do I have to install anything? No, and that’s kind of the selling point. It runs in the browser and takes up no space. There’s an iPhone app if you’d rather work on your phone.
Can I use my own watermark? Premium only. Upload a PNG and adjust the size, position and transparency.
Is there a learning curve? Not much of one. It’s built for people who’ve never edited anything.
Last thought
Good enough is usually good enough. If your plan for this afternoon is to trim, merge and convert videos online with Clideo, open a tab and you’ll probably be finished before your tea goes cold.
