Lincolnshire Management, a private equity firm with an exceptional history spanning over three decades, has solidified its position as a key player in the industry by successfully investing in and growing middle market companies across a wide spectrum of sectors. The firm’s continued success can be attributed to its distinctive blend of deep sector knowledge, operational prowess, and innovative strategies that drive meaningful value creation within its portfolio companies.

Sector Expertise and a Hands-On Approach to Value Creation

At the heart of Lincolnshire’s investment philosophy lies the conviction that true value is created at the convergence of identifying undervalued opportunities, robust business fundamentals, and tailored execution. The firm’s team of seasoned professionals operates with an inventive and agile mindset, leveraging their extensive experience to drive operational, financial, and ESG enhancements across Lincolnshire’s portfolio of lower middle market businesses.

One of the key factors that sets Lincolnshire apart is its dedicated origination team, which employs a strategic approach to identify companies with untapped potential that can be unlocked through operational improvements and strategic guidance. This approach has resulted in an impressive track record of over 110 acquisitions across various sectors, with a particular focus on business and industrial services, niche manufacturing, and consumer goods and services.

Lincolnshire’s expertise is exemplified by its recent acquisition of Banker Wire, a leading manufacturer of woven and welded wire mesh for industrial and architectural applications. The investment, spearheaded by Managing Director, George Henry, and Principal, Nico Vega Llona, showcases the firm’s ability to identify companies with strong fundamentals and significant growth potential. Under Lincolnshire’s stewardship, Banker Wire is well-positioned to expand its sales, maintain healthy margins through operational efficiencies, and explore both organic and inorganic growth opportunities in existing and adjacent markets.

The firm’s operational expertise is another critical component of its success. Lincolnshire’s in-house operations team works hand-in-hand with portfolio company management to develop and implement customized improvement plans based on a deep understanding of the sector, market, and each company’s unique challenges and opportunities. This hands-on approach has been instrumental in driving growth and creating value across the firm’s portfolio.

A prime example of this operational focus is Lincolnshire’s investment in U.S. Auto Supply (formerly Whitewater Brands). By leveraging its expertise in the transportation and transportation servicing industries, Lincolnshire guided the company through a significant rebranding initiative, unifying four industry-leading automotive brands under the U.S. Auto Supply identity. This strategic move positioned the company as a leading provider in the automotive supply industry and demonstrated Lincolnshire’s forward-thinking approach to brand evolution and customer engagement.

T.J. Maloney, Chairman and CEO of Lincolnshire Management, highlights the potential of U.S. Auto Supply: “The Whitewater brands are well recognized in the collision repair community, and their reputation positions them to be a promising platform for growth as a leader in a very large, broad, and highly fragmented market.”

Innovation is another hallmark of Lincolnshire’s approach, as evidenced by its ability to adapt to evolving market conditions and capitalize on emerging trends. The firm’s recent sale of Schumacher Electric, a leading manufacturer of power supply products, to Ripple Industries illustrates this point. During its 18-month ownership, Lincolnshire directed Schumacher to develop products for the growing electric vehicle market and expand its offerings in Europe, repositioning the company for future growth. This strategic shift, coupled with an increased focus on e-commerce sales, resulted in a nearly fivefold return on Lincolnshire’s investment.

Thomas Callahan, a Managing Director at Lincolnshire, elaborates on the firm’s approach to Schumacher: “We asked the engineering team to divert some of their efforts and focus on developing EV products. It really repositioned the company and gave it a future that didn’t exist before the investment.”

Lincolnshire’s commitment to innovation extends beyond its investment strategies and into its portfolio companies’ operations. The firm places an emphasis on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors, working alongside management teams to develop sustainable and socially responsible practices. Portfolio companies like Desch Plantpak, a leading manufacturer of recycled plastic containers for the horticulture industry, and True Sports, a designer and manufacturer of premium sporting goods, have implemented environmentally friendly initiatives and created safer work environments under Lincolnshire’s guidance.

Desch Plantpak, in particular, has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability, being named one of the Best Managed Dutch Companies of 2021-2022 by Deloitte. The program assessed the strategy, operations, culture, innovation, and financial results of participating companies, with a specific focus on the extent to which sustainability was incorporated into their business operations.

Lincolnshire’s dedication to responsible investing and creating lasting value has not gone unnoticed. The firm has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Private Equity Firms for Executives in both 2023 and 2024, a testament to its strong governance, engagement, and ability to create an environment that enables portfolio company executives to achieve success.

Deploying Capital in the Current Environment

Looking ahead, Lincolnshire remains well-positioned to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the current market landscape. The firm’s disciplined approach to investing, coupled with its ability to source deals from non-traditional sources and drive both organic and inorganic growth via deep sector expertise and a hands-on approach to partnering with management teams and implementing strategic growth initiatives, sets it apart in an increasingly competitive private equity landscape.

Matt Nacier, Principal at Lincolnshire Management, shared his perspective on the current environment: “…when I think about the LP environment, I think this is a good environment for us. Largely, because we are value. We are a value investor. We’re very disciplined on price and we are going into companies and helping management to really drive organic growth and also supplement inorganic growth through acquisitions. So this is an environment that we will succeed in, and we feel pretty good going into it.”

As the firm continues to deploy capital from its fifth equity fund, it remains focused on partnering with strong management teams, identifying undervalued opportunities, and driving operational improvements to create lasting value for its investors.

With its unique blend of sector knowledge, operational expertise, and innovative strategies, Lincolnshire Management is well-equipped to continue driving value creation and supporting the growth in its portfolio companies for the long-run.
