If you have always wanted to own and run your very own autoshop then now is the time. There is no right or wrong time to start your own business, and sometimes you just need to grab the bull by the horns and go for it. So, how do you get started with this and get it off the ground? Sometimes it can feel a bit like trying to navigate a minefield, and you may worry about getting parts of it wrong. You might have heard that a high percentage of new businesses will close before they reach their first birthday. If you don’t want this to be you then check out the article below to find out more.

Business Plan

One of the very first things you need to do before you launch a business is create your business plan. A business plan will have everything contained in this one file, it will state your budget, your goals, and what your plan is for the business overall. If you need help with writing this and creating your business plan then get in touch with a business mentor. They will be able to give you all the advice and guidance you need on creating and launching a super successful business.

Budget

Now, it’s time to figure out just how much money you will need to run your business. This isn’t just the amount of cash needed to launch, but also to keep you afloat for around three years after that. It can take up to three years, sometimes longer for profits to start rolling in and take over. You may be thinking that you can start your new business with little to no money at all, while this may be true, it tends to be companies that are handed down.

So, write down everything you need to get your business off the ground. This should include what is needed and how much it is likely to cost. Once you have everything written down, work out the total. Always give yourself some wiggle room with emergencies and forgotten items on the list. If you don’t have the money to hand then you could always apply for a business loan or work with investors. You will need to make back the repayments so you need to be confident in your business.

Goals

Every business needs goals, this gives you something to work towards and achieve. When it comes to setting your business goals, you should work with the SMART acronym. This stands for:

Specific

Measurable

Achievable

Realistic

Timely

So, if you are setting a goal of making a million in six months then this doesn’t match with SMART goals. Instead, you could set a more realistic amount to hit, with the help of your coworkers and employees. If everyone is on the same page with goals then everybody is working towards the same finishing point.

Employees

Are you going to hire employees to work in your auto shop? If so, then you will need to hire them at some point before you open. If you can manage your shop and customers efficiently without feeling snowed under then you could wait until your client base grows a bit. However, when you are getting bookings left, right, and centre then you will need to hire some extra help.

You could put up advertisements for staff in your local neighborhood, on community boards or social media pages. If you really don’t want to go through the hiring princess yourself then you could work with a recruitment agency. They will find you the right people for the jobs that you want filling.

Location

Next up, you need to find a location that works not only for you but also your customers and clients. There is no point having a shop far away from anything, you ideally need to be located near the main part of town. You will get a lot more custom if people can easily get to you. You will need enough space to work on cars, store all your bits, and also have an office for paperwork. If you aren’t too sure where to start looking then you could speak with a commercial realtor, they will know exactly what you need and point you in the right direction.

Marketing

Now, if you don’t want to be invisible to potential customers and clients then you might want to consider different marketing techniques and strategies. While your shop will be visible from the street, people can still be wary about using you if they don’t know anything about you. This is where marketing comes into play, and you can manage it yourself or use professionals. If you have never done anything like this then there are companies and individuals out there just waiting to give you a helping hand. Check out ones that offer specialist services to automotive businesses.

Website

Design and build your website before you open up your company. This is where you can list what services you are offering, so you don’t end up with constant phone calls and enquiries. A strong website is exactly what your auto shop business needs to thrive, something you could also do is add a chat bot with answers to pre set questions. If you have never designed a website before then you could get in touch with a website designer/developer to help you out.

Security

Finally, if this is seething you have always wanted to do then your new business will be your pride and joy. You will want to keep this safe and sound, especially when you are closed for the day. What protection can you put in place so that nothing major happens to your business while you aren’t there? You could put in good quality CCTV cameras, if you don’t want to manage these yourself then a security company can do it for you. They are linked to emergency services, which is better if something were to happen. Read reviews of local companies to see if there are any that you want to protect your company.
