Choosing the Perfect Material & Creating a Base

The most popular fabric for a stole is satin and cotton mixed acrylic. The cultural stoles come in mixed cotton, while the satin ones are universal. We will be creating a satin one in this blog. Satin possesses a unique sheen that can be enhanced further by ironing it. Ensure that your fabric is around 40 inches long and 12 inches wide. Start by tracing two straight lines 40 inches in length and 11 and a half inches apart on your pattern paper and join them with a line on each end. Create another dashed line 5 and a half inches apart from the first one. Roll the fabric in half across the dashed line that you drew just now. Grab the pattern paper at the end, and turn it up diagonally to the solid line. Create a crease and gently open out the fold. Cut along the lines and use the crease as a guide.

Sewing And Finishing Your Stoles

Roll over the length of the fabric till its mid, while keeping the good side down. Use the pattern paper to secure the length of your stole, and cut the design by following it. Remove the pattern paper. Secure the slanted side of the fabric with a pin, and start stitching from the top of the slant to the midpoint while keeping a quarter-inch seam allowance. Turn the stole and sew it across the bottom and the opposite side. Trim the seam of the angle by pressing the seam allowance. If you know how to embroider it is the time to do that. Take the stole to a professional, if you want to avoid that step. Secure the other three lengths of the stole and sew two inches from both ends. Cut the corners, and stitch the remaining part of the stole by taking it inside out.

But, I Don’t Know How To Stitch

Uh, oh! You can’t sew but that should not stop you from wearing a stole on your graduation day. As mentioned earlier, there are ready-made blank stoles available too. All you have to do is create your design in Photoshop or Canva and get it printed on DTF stickers. You can use hand painting techniques too if you are good at art. To improve it further, you can add bling to the letters. Also, there are pre-designed stoles for each field of study, and even categories like kindergarten, middle school, and high school. By ordering the pre-designed one, you will save time as graduation is a hectic process. Ensure you check out the delivery time to get your stole on time. Options like express shipping will speed up the process.
