Zayed Ahmed’s path to founding one of Bangladesh’s rising BPO firms began in a Dhaka call center. Now he leads ASL BPO, delivering outsourcing solutions to North American and European businesses, with plans to rival industry giants.
It was after a stint as a call center agent while studying when Ahmed spotted a gap in the market. His experience managing a 100-person team for another BPO firm showed him both the potential and limitations of existing operations. “When I made their project a huge success but felt unrewarded, I knew it was time to start my own firm,” says Ahmed, who launched ASL BPO while still completing his Masters in Biotechnology at North South University.
His approach centers on transparency in offshore partnerships. “We show clients our office culture, the team they will be working with, and how we ensure compliance with international standards,” Ahmed explains. This open strategy helps build trust with overseas clients seeking small to medium-sized remote teams.
The company specialises in back-office support, customer care, and virtual assistance. By focusing on these core services, ASL BPO has built a reputation for reliability in the international market.
Embracing Challenges
Ahmed’s business acumen was shaped by personal challenges. At the age of twelve, family circumstances forced him to leave one of Dhaka’s top schools and move to Barisal, a small town in Bangladesh. It was this experience of financial hardship that fueled his drive for success.
Understanding the BPO sector’s evolving nature, Ahmed puts strong emphasis on technological adaptation and staff training. Beyond commercial success, ASL BPO maintains strong community ties, funding flood relief in rural Bangladesh and supporting Red Cross initiatives in conflict zones.
Future Vision
Looking ahead, Ahmed aims to establish ASL BPO among Bangladesh’s top IT service providers, taking inspiration from sector leaders like Genpact and Infosys. The company’s growth strategy focuses on sustainable expansion without compromising service quality.
For those entering the BPO sector, Ahmed emphasizes the need to adapt: “The industry is changing with AI. New entrants must understand current demands and provide fresh solutions to clients.” He stresses the importance of being multi-talented, combining operational expertise with marketing knowledge and client relationship skills.
