When the crypto frenzy started almost a decade ago, the majority of people who jumped on the bandwagon were simply looking to make a quick buck. But the years have passed, the cryptocurrency market matured and digital currencies are no longer regarded as a get-rich-quick scheme. Investors have come to realize that for better or for worse, crypto is here to stay, so they are now more interested in seeking crypto assets that can hold their value or appreciate over time, and yield considerable returns. Therefore, the focus has slowly shifted toward cryptocurrencies that have shown resilience, consistency, and potential for long-term gains.
While many might be tempted to designate Bitcoin or Ethereum as the best options for long-term investments due to their track record of success and ability to weather market fluctuations, other coins might be just as or even better suited for these endeavors. BNB, originally known as Binance Coin, is one of them, as it seems to fit the description above perfectly.
Although it ranks fourth in the crypto hierarchy by market cap, BNB hardly ever makes the headlines since it doesn’t exhibit the same volatility as the likes of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Instead, BNB stands out from other cryptos through its uncommon stability and steady growth. This unusual behavior has made market participants curious about the BNB price prediction 2030 and its prospects for the future. So, let’s dive deeper into this promising crypto project and see what it brings to the table.
A quick overview of BNB
For those who are new to crypto or haven’t had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with BNB until now, we should start by providing a brief introduction to BNB’s history. The coin was launched in 2017 via Binance’s Initial Coin Offering (ICO), under the name of Binance Coin, being built atop the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC-20 token. Initially, its sole purpose was to enable trading fee payments on the Binance exchange platform, providing generous discounts that enhanced its appeal and popularity among users.
Three years after its debut, Binance launched its own blockchain, so BNB transitioned from the Ethereum network to the Binance Smart Chain and became the native cryptocurrency of the Binance blockchain. In 2022, Binance rebranded Binance Coin into BNB which stands for “Build’N’Build” and also changed the name of the Binance Smart Chain into BNB Chain (BSC).
BNB had an initial supply cap of 200 million coins and a current circulating supply estimated at around 147 million units. However, Binance employs an Auto-Burn deflationary mechanism set to reduce its total supply to 100 million coins through periodic burns based on the token’s value and the number of blocks created each quarter, and thus drive up the price of the tokens still in circulation. At press time, BNB was trading at $584, with a market cap of $86.32B and an all-time high of $720.
Apart from facilitating transactions on the Binance blockchain and providing perks to its users, BNB also plays a key role in the development of numerous decentralized applications (DApps) and decentralized finance (DeFi) projects supported by the Binance network, while also providing access to token sales and being widely accepted as a payment method. This enhanced functionality makes BNB more than a utility token, fueling its popularity and price appreciation.
BNB’s past performance
It is often said that past performance is the best predictor of future performance. While that might not always be the case and one may not be able to predict an asset’s future by simply looking at its past, there’s definitely something to learn from analyzing an asset’s evolution in time, so let’s see how BNB has fared over the years.
Shortly after its launch, BNB was valued at $US0.15 and didn’t experience much growth during its first years of existence, moving in the $15 to $40 price range. But then the crypto boom of 2021 came along and changed the asset’s trajectory, causing its price to surge to $690. Unfortunately, the crypto winter that followed after this amazing rally and led to a downturn in all crypto prices also had a profound impact on BNB whose value dropped to $205 by late 2023.
Although BNB hasn’t been immune to market volatility, its price performance also shows long periods of stability, when the asset maintained a relatively constant value while other cryptos continued to fluctuate strongly. This ability to resist market sell-offs demonstrates the asset’s strength, resilience, and reliability.
Outlook for the future
There’s no denying that BNB moves differently from other coins in the market, but what are its prospects for the future? The first aspect to keep in mind is that BNB’s performance and fate are closely linked to that of Binance. As the largest crypto exchange in the world, Binance attracts millions of users from all across the world. Since BNB is extremely popular among users of the Binance platform due to the perks it provides, this association helps BNB enjoy a constant demand and offset market fluctuations. So, if Binance performs well, as it did so far, so does BNB.
Obviously, BNB’s future doesn’t rely on Binance alone. The asset is also subject to numerous other factors, with macroeconomics playing a vital role in its development. Nevertheless, most experts seem to hold a bullish outlook, based on the asset’s prospect as a safe haven for long-term investors looking to escape the volatility of the market. If macroeconomic trends are also favorable, and inflation starts to decline in the future, BNB could bolster its standing in the crypto market and become an even fiercer contender.
BNB’s trajectory so far proves that it’s not always the coins that rally and have spectacular growth that manage to reach the finish line. Sometimes, it’s the underdogs and those with underrated performances that end up in the lead. Whatever the future might bring for BNB, Binance’s native coin is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
