Will Bitcoin Be More Volatile in 2024?

Bitcoin is many things: innovative, disruptive, the face of the crypto industry, and, of course, volatile. Cryptos as a whole are known to be very volatile and Bitcoin is not exempt. It has seen some dramatic swings over the years both upwards and downwards.
2024 is shaping up to be a major year for Bitcoin. From the possibility of a Bitcoin ETF in the United States to halving, and greater adoption around the world, the year has much in store for Bitcoin. But will this lead to more or less volatility for the token?
One thing we know for now is that the price of Bitcoin seems to be on its way up. There have already been positive market movements as news of the ETF application has been made public.
Should the ETF go through, we can expect even higher price points for Bitcoin in 2024, with some analysts suggesting it can get as high as $100,000.
At the same time, there is still the possibility of sell-offs. Whenever the industry goes into a winter, there are those who stock up on Bitcoin while it is cheap with the intention of selling the tokens for a profit.

If Bitcoin reaches its old price high of around $63,000 or gets to $100,000, we will also see a wave of people selling off their tokens and cashing out. If you look at some of the top crypto trading apps ranked, you’ll see that many allow customers to automatically sell their tokens when the price reaches a certain threshold. If a horde of investors sell their Bitcoin at a certain price point (or even just a few whales exit the market), the price of Bitcoin could dip soon after and this will contribute to volatility.
Then there is the halving. Historically, the halving has caused some level of volatility before and after it happens. The level of volatility has differed from year to year and there is nothing to indicate that 2024 will be any different.
Bitcoin, and crypto as a whole, could see more volatility in 2023 because it is on track to be a dramatic year. There is the sentencing of Sam Bankman-Fried and Changpeng Zhao, both major figures in the industry. This sort of news inevitably has a sway on the crypto market, whether for better or worse. The crypto market has always been moved by breaking news and major developments and 2024 will certainly have some of those.
Whether it is the decisions by the courts or even things like the decisions made by the feds, these tend to contribute towards volatility. 2024 will also reportedly see India, South Korea, Singapore, Brazil, and Ireland pilot or fully launch their central bank digital currencies. These currencies are highly anticipated because they are essentially government-back crypto and come with benefits for citizens. At the same time, their impact on the crypto industry and Bitcoin specifically could go one way or the other. Some believe that it will raise the price of major tokens like Bitcoin while others believe it will have a negative effect.
The crypto market is nothing if not complicated and one thing it constantly deals with is volatility. While we will need to wait to find out, 2024 seems to be primed for intense volatility when it comes to Bitcoin. While the price is on track to spike, several factors could lead to sharp price fluctuations in what could be Bitcoin’s biggest year yet.
