The idea that you’re not as productive as other people can be stressful. When you compare yourself to them, you realize that you still have a long way to go. Before it takes a toll on your mental health, these are the things you need to do.
Remember that it’s not a productivity competition
You want to be productive because you see the value of what you’re doing. You also enjoy the tasks given to you. If you’re doing it because you’re competing with other people, it’s not an excellent idea. Productivity has never been a competition with others. It’s about making the most of your time.
Change your work style to avoid getting stressed out
Perhaps, your work style doesn’t suit you. It’s time to consider changes to avoid feeling stressed. Even simple changes will suffice. For some people, it helps to starts with the simple tasks before moving to the difficult ones. Accomplishing something allows them to take the stress off of their backs. Others prefer doing the other way around. They would rather get the most difficult tasks done before moving to the easier ones. You decide which style suits you. There’s no universal rule to follow.
Avoid procrastinating
You might be unproductive because of your own doing. Perhaps, you can avoid procrastinating to focus on what you need to do. Instead of thinking that you still have plenty of time left, you can imagine that time is running out. When you don’t procrastinate, you will accomplish a lot.
Remove distractions and keep office supplies near you
Try to get rid of distractions, such as video games and social media. There’s nothing wrong with using them if you have free time. However, if you already have a lot on your plate, you need to determine your priorities. You can’t allow yourself to get distracted. Sometimes, it’s easy to say that you will only allot a few minutes to browse your social media. Before you know it, you already spent several hours. Instead of placing your phone next to you, keep the office products and other office supplies close. They will remind you that there are many things left to do.
Create an effective structure
Do a better job with time management. For some people, it means having a structure. It works best if you always get sidetracked by irrelevant activities. If you follow a robust structure, you will realize that you still have a lot to do. You will put down your phone and focus on the job left to do. Again, you don’t have to follow what other people do. Create your schedule based on what feels comfortable. You can adjust to avoid feeling stressed out.
It takes a while to manage your time and be productive. Always remind yourself of what you have to do for the rest of the day. Don’t forget to relax if you have to. There’s no pressure to finish everything quickly. You can be productive but still feel satisfied.
