New snack has 50% larger pieces than classic version
Pepperidge Farm has released a new version of its classic Goldfish crackers snack with 50% larger pieces, called Goldfish Mega Bites.
Mega Bites will be a permanent addition to the Goldfish line of crackers, according to the company, which said they were created specifically to cater to a more adult demographic.
Flavors for Mega Bites will include Sharp Cheddar and Cheddar Jalapeño, designed to deliver a “touch of heat” and “pack a punch,” the company says.
“This is the first time Goldfish has created a snacking experience specifically with ‘Grown Up’ tastes in mind,” said Janda Lukin, Chief Marketing Officer of Campbell Snacks, in a statement.
Goldfish crackers have been around in the U.S. since 1962, with their original purpose to mainly be served at cocktail parties, pubs, bowling alleys, and other like-minded events.
The snack gained more popularity with a youth demographic after smiling faces were added to many of the versions of the crackers in 1997.
Nowadays, more than 40% of Goldfish consumers are adults, according to Pepperidge Farm, which says it is continuing to try and grow its appeal to all different age groups.
“We’re at the start of a new chapter for the brand and are expanding our offerings and appeal to all age groups—in the college dorm, snacking at your desk, wherever that is these days—while remaining a snack for all families. We’re excited to keep creating bold and playful snacks and experiences,” Lukin said.
Goldfish Mega Bites are being rolled out to a variety of different retailers and will come with a suggested retail price of $2.69 for a 5.9 oz bag.
