At Reboot, we believe that brilliant, non-traditional approaches to problem solving can reshape lives, societies, and commerce. To that end, we’ve assembled ten of the most imaginative and daring world-changing startups who are inventing new and exciting ways for all of us to become healthier, reclaim precious time, protect the environment, and increase personal and industrial safety.

Jack Fertility

Health Science 101 taught us that sperm doesn’t survive outside our bodies – but never mentioned its survival rate when sent in the mail. Jack Fertility frees men from the inconvenience, embarrassment and stigma of reproductive clinic visits with at-home, mail-in sperm quality testing. Their ingenious technology empowers men to manage their repro health on their terms and delivers rapid, accurate results. The kit is ordered online, samples are collected in the privacy of home and placed in a prepaid, temperature-controlled return package to be sent up to 24 hours from sample collection. Experienced embryologists analyze the sample in Jack’s in-house, state-of-the-art lab; their proprietary algorithm accounts for sample degradation during transit to ensure accurate results comparable to in-clinic tests.

Why it matters

Average sperm quality is declining quickly and is expected to get worse every year. Most men don’t realize that they can be in great health and have unhealthy sperm. Discreet, at-home tests are helping to close that gap in understanding. Fertility is dynamic: sperm health can almost always be improved. Jack provides easy to interpret, clinic-grade semen analysis results for motility, morphology, count, concentration and volume and delivers a password-protected digital report containing personalized next step recommendations within 5 working days.

“The male fertility crisis is real—it’s time we start talking about it, stop wasting precious time and take meaningful action.” – Ellis Hall,  undergraduate student in medicine at Oxford University.

H2O Plus

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic chemicals found in clothing, upholstery, fire foam, carpets, nonstick cookware, and other everyday items. Scientists have come a long way to limit the dangers of PFAS through traditional solutions for capturing these “forever chemicals, “but no solution could completely remove them – until now. H2O Plus, has created a way to destroy PFAS on contact, breaking down PFAS molecules into harmless compounds. Their process effectively dismantles the PFAS molecular structure completely, leaving no trace. And their energy-efficient, cost-effective technology doesn’t use chemicals. H2O Plus is partnering with businesses and municipalities to advance their world-changing mission to banish FPAS forever.

Why it matters

According to the EPA, PFAS can be detected in the blood of most people. The likelihood of health problems from PFAS depends on several factors, including the concentration, frequency, and duration of exposure. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some studies in humans suggest that certain PFAS may be associated with liver damage, increased risk of cancers such as testicular and kidney, increased cholesterol, fertility and pregnancy issues, and may increase the risk of thyroid disease and asthma, among other concerns.

“Our successful pilot trial in Michigan is a testament to H2Plus’s commitment to transforming environmental challenges into opportunities for innovation. This breakthrough not only reaffirms our technology’s efficacy but also positions H2Plus as a leader in the fight against PFAS contamination, providing affordable and scalable solutions for industries and communities worldwide.” – Scott Canino, Chief Operating Officer

Daye

Daye innovative diagnostic tampons are helping to save women’s lives. Cervical cancer is a silent killer; women may not have symptoms that give them a reason to see a clinician, and by the time it is discovered by a routine visit to the gynecologist the cancer has already taken hold. Thankfully, there’s a reliable at-home mail-in test for HPV and sexually transmitted infections. Daye employs sophisticated molecular PCR testing technology, which is the most accurate way to discover vaginal microorganisms. Wearing the tampon for only 20 minutes yields reliable results in 5 to 10 days from Daye’s accredited laboratories and can be used effectively in at any point in the menstrual cycle, as well as in women who are menopausal, pregnant or on long-term contraception.

Why it matters

According to the Centers for Disease Control, over 42 million Americans are currently infected with disease-causing HPV types, with about 13 million new infections every year. In the U.S. alone, HPV causes about 37,800 cancers each year, including 26,280 in females and 21,704 in males, with oropharyngeal cancers most common in men and cervical cancers in women. Nearly 10,800 women are diagnosed with HPV-caused cervical cancer yearly, and roughly 4,000 of them die.

“At Daye, we’re proud to be part of this ongoing (women’s health) evolution with innovations like the Daye Diagnostic Tampon. By enabling convenient at-home screening for common vaginal infections and disruptions to the microbiome, it represents a modern step towards the personalized, proactive, and accessible vaginal healthcare that generations have strived for.” –  Izzie Price, journalist

DeltaH Innovations, Ltd.

It’s a sad situation we’ve all found ourselves in: we grab a nice, cold can of our favorite bevvie out of the fridge. Fast-forward 20 minutes and the chill is gone. Thankfully, DeltaH Innovations feels our pain. They’ve created the world’s first-ever self-cooling drink can. Their patented “Cool>Can” uses an endothermic process to chill drinks instantly without refrigeration and keeps the contents cold for 45 refreshing minutes. Goodbye tepid sips! The can cools room-temperature beverage to 6-7°C., is 100% recyclable, and its push button activator is easy to use. The invention has an upside for beverage companies as well, potentially reducing energy use in the supply chain.

Why it matters

Cool>Can technology may reduce carbon emissions per can within supply chains by 20-40%. We consume 190 billions of traditional beverage cans every year without access to refrigeration. A company report states that 74% of the drinkers they surveyed would pay more for the convenience factor of a self-cooling beverage container.

“At the back of every can containing a beverage it’s always displayed as best served ‘chilled’ but this isn’t possible when you are on-the-go. Our patent pending Cool>Can solves this problem for both consumers and brands, self-cooling when on-the-go with a simple twist at the bottom.” – James Vyse, founder

Charm Industrial

They didn’t wave a wand or cast a spell to captivate environmentally aware companies with their unique use of plants to capture CO₂ from the atmosphere. Charm’s amazing process transforms wildfire fuel residues and agricultural waste into a carbon-rich, semi-liquid mixture called bio-oil, which is injected into EPA-regulated underground wells, including former oil wells. The mixture then solidifies and is permanently stored.

Why it matters

By repurposing existing industrial expertise and infrastructure, Charm provides scalable, durable carbon removal while supporting high quality American jobs. The company has prioritized hiring rural workers to operate its bio-oil injection sites, leveraging their expertise to advance a new era of technology.

“There are a lot of parallels between Charm’s operations and the practices that we heavily relied on in oil and gas. We need subsurface geology and regulatory expertise, as well as support from the entire logistics network to get it to the wellhead like truck drivers and train operators. There’s a wide range of different backgrounds that we need to scale along with us!” – Jen, Charm’s first carbon removal geologist

Hohonu

“While the U.S. boasts strong storm prediction and tracking systems, the upkeep and resources needed for local-scale water, coastal, and flood monitoring are currently limited. Such detailed information is essential not only for forecasting but for risk assessment, prevention, real-time emergency response, and insurance payouts,” according to Hohonu CEO Brian Grazer, “The more refined the data, the more accurately communities can respond to disasters and prepare for future events.”  With Hohonu, communities don’t need technical experts to capture, access, understand, and share real-time water level data. They make large-scale deployments possible by making it easy for sensors to be deployed, maintaining scientific rigor for the data to be trusted, and offering different ways for the data to be accessed.

Why it matters

Honohu tracks daily tides and nuisance flooding events that federal gauges sometimes miss, sudden surges in urban stormwater systems in real time, and extends coverage beyond the coast with hyperlocal data from rivers, lakes, and watersheds. The tech’s flexible design is proven to withstand harsh conditions that NOAA and USGS networks can’t reach. Honohu’s Data-Centric Flood Intelligence Platform is easy to install, turnkey to share, and powerful enough for governments, consultants, and businesses with ground-truth flood data at any address.

“The path forward is clear. Public-private partnerships, local knowledge and initiatives, and improved sensor networks will provide the data we need to better predict, prepare for, and respond to storms. By working together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities that are equipped to face the challenges ahead. Let’s ensure that the next time a hurricane hits, we’re not just recovering, but better prepared for what’s to come.” – Dr. Brian Glazer, CEO

ENAUTIC

The revolution in electric hydrofoil boats has begun, and the Aussies are leading the charge.
The marine industry uses 50% more diesel fuel than the airline industry, and ENAUTIC is racing to change that. ENAUTIC’s novel hydrofoil design “flies” above the water, cutting energy consumption by 80% compared to traditional boats – and eliminating water and noise pollution. The WaveFlyer’s design significantly reduces the drag and weight issues faced by traditional electric boats and has the speed and range of its fossil-fuel counterparts while being environmentally friendly. Their Wave Drive electronically controlled stability control system offers unmatched maneuverability and performance, allowing the foil to operate in a range of water conditions.

Why it Matters

The patented, future-proof WaveDrive system is designed to be as modular, serviceable and upgradable as possible. Scalable to hold about 300 users, the Wave Flyer small recreational craft can be reconfigured with a stealth hull form that can carry a 200kg payload. Designed for mass production, ENAUTIC craft are built with rugged and inexpensive materials such as aluminum, making it accessible and sustainable. Its design ensures that users can handle maintenance themselves without the need for specialized technicians

“It can run up and down a river with no wake, there’s no emissions and there’s no noise. We know very well where the worst winter waves are so we designed the hull so it flies above the water and you fly every day in perfect comfort.” – Paul Steinmann, CEO

Dandelion Energy

Geothermal home heating and cooling systems deliver reliable year-round comfort in any weather. Grid-friendly and with a low environmental impact, geothermal uses about 60% less electricity during peak cold days in colder climates and reduces energy bills by over 50% compared to other systems. Since 2017, Dandelion has installed thousands of home geothermal heat pumps and over 1 million linear feet of ground loops. Unfortunately, cost has been a big barrier to wide adoption. Dandelion is changing that by introducing the nation’s first-ever residential geothermal leasing program. The new financing model makes it possible for builders to integrate geothermal systems into their developments for significantly less than traditional HVAC, making geothermal energy more affordable than ever, accelerating mainstream adoption.

Why it matters

Leasing allows homebuyers to access geothermal HVAC for as little as $10–$40 per month. Savings are driven by the 30–50% federal Commercial Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for geothermal heat pumps, maintained through 2034 under H.R. 1. Dandelion’s initial program is offered in partnership with Upstream Lease by CSG, a leader in financial products for renewable energy.

“Dandelion’s mission has always been to make geothermal heating and cooling affordable and attainable for all. Our new leasing program removes the upfront cost barrier that has slowed adoption, bringing us closer to making geothermal the default choice for American homes.” – Dan Yates, CEO of Dandelion Energy.
