When choosing windows, in addition to the size, we pay a lot of attention to the material from which the windows are made, as it is primarily responsible for all parameters, such as energy efficiency, ease of use and price, which can vary depending on the workmanship. Not all windows will be suited to our preferences and to the building we want to glaze. If you choose aluminum windows, you should learn about their features and other elements that will have a huge impact on your choice.
Are aluminum windows energy-efficient?
Properly selected windows mean energy-efficiency. By minimizing heat loss from the building, the bill price can be significantly reduced. The best possible windows are those that prevent the flow of air from inside to outside and vice versa to the greatest extent. As a result, each room will remain properly warm in the cold months and cool on hot days. Aluminum windows have one of the lowest heat transfer coefficients of any available window types. By choosing aluminum windows, we can be sure that heated rooms won’t become colder, and that not even a little bit of warm air will get inside when the air conditioning is running.
Aside from the frames, glazing is also important. By opting for double glazing, which is now the standard when it comes to window joinery, we give ourselves an even greater guarantee of energy-efficiency. Such glazing is covered with a coating that protects the glass from low temperatures, and thus does not let cold air through. The principle is simple and applies to entire windows – the lower the U-value (even below 1 W/m2K), the better the windows’ protection against cold.
Aluminum windows versus others
The biggest advantage of windows made of aluminum is that they can be manufactured in any shape. Most of the shutters in the shape of triangles, circles, flowers and other, even irregular shapes, are made of aluminum. It is a very flexible material that can be molded in any way you want and allows you to make any unique shape, all within reason, of course. Aluminum windows may seem more expensive, but in fact the price of operating them is much lower. They are not subject to regular maintenance and do not need to be renewed like wooden or plastic ones. In addition to forming a variety of shapes, aluminum windows offer the possibility of creating huge glazing in very thin frames. Thanks to good stability, the frames will be almost invisible, and the glass wall will fit into any modern interior.
How to maintain aluminum windows
Aluminum windows do not require special care. Apart from basic cleaning with special agents for aluminum, they are very easy to maintain. It is important to avoid using strong detergents, as they can damage the aluminum. In such a case, the cost of repair may exceed the cost of replacing the window, and our attempt to save money will be futile. Standard operations do not take up a lot of time or money, while the windows always look great.
